Our Story

A Story of Transmission

In the Siegrist family, wine is a story of heritage, science, and emotion.

It all begins with Jean Siegrist, an oenologist at the INAO, and later a professor at the Beaune Wine School, where he taught many renowned winemakers from across France. He went on to become a researcher at the INRA (National Institute for Agronomic Research). A true enthusiast, Jean devoted his career to understanding the delicate balance of wine and to sharing his knowledge.

In 1985, he defended a groundbreaking thesis:

"Contribution to the study of glycerol in wine."

This pioneering work became a reference, marking a key moment in the understanding of the chemical transformations that shape wine — illuminating the relationship between matter, texture, and taste perception.

The Birth of a Vocation

It was in this demanding and intellectually rich environment that Yvan Siegrist grew up.

From his father, he inherited both a taste for precision and the humility of a taster. Jean passed down an essential lesson:

"Tasting is not about judging — it's about listening to the wine."

This philosophy — at once scientific and sensitive — continues to inspire Yvan's approach today.

A Visionary Oenologist

By the late 1990s, Jean joined the Beaune oenology team at INRA. His research on wine molecules led him to collaborate with numerous scientists and producers around the world.

Highly sought after for his expertise, he gave lectures at major international conferences — notably in Italy — and advised several wine estates, some of which, like GAIA, would become iconic names in contemporary wine.

YVAN SIEGRIST – The Expression of Burgundy Terroirs

Through his eponymous brand, Yvan Siegrist carries forward this family philosophy with a collection exclusively dedicated to the wines of Burgundy.

Each cuvée reflects a perfect balance between oenological rigor and the emotion of terroir — between heritage and modernity.

These are precise, sincere wines, where the natural elegance of Burgundy shines without artifice — a tribute to knowledge, transmission, and time.

It's hard to accept the historical defeat of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, who lost the war against the Lorrains. He was killed in battle — and with him, the Burgundian Empire fell."

A phrase that perfectly sums up Yvan's spirit: passionate yet self-aware, deeply faithful to his roots, with a touch of humor and tenderness for his region.

The YS Tower has become the emblem of this balance —

between science and heart, history and values, reason and instinct, between the eternal Burgundy and the modern vision of the Yvan Siegrist house.

It stands as a tribute to Jean Siegrist, whose knowledge and passion guided his son, and to all those who have contributed to making Burgundy such a radiant and timeless land.

The tower's light symbolizes both the legacy of a great taster and the cultural heritage of Burgundy itself.

The YS Tower - Between rigor and the Burgundians Spirit

The YS Tower embodies a dual meaning, mirroring the Siegrist family's spirit.

On one hand, it represents a symbolic and intellectual vision:

In the tradition of Jean Siegrist's research, the tower symbolizes the spirit of rigor and curiosity that guides the house — a tower of observation, standing at the crossroads of science and sensibility.
